Land Management Plans

On the 24th June 2025 the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill entered Stage 3 of the legislative process, leading up to a final vote by MSPs.  Aiming to reform the law around large landholdings, the Bill proposes new obligations on owners of large landholdings to develop, publish and review land management plans. 

Alongside the other proposals in the Bill, land management plans are intended to increase transparency of landownership and management, give a greater degree of community involvement in decisions concerning land, and support compliance with the principles of the Land Rights and Responsibilities Statement.

SRUC researchers reviewed examples of existing land management plans, seeking to provide baseline information on relevant extent, scope and content of existing plans.  The report adds to the evidence base supporting further development of proposals within the Bill.
